PUBLIC HEARING CITY OF BANGOR The Bangor City Council will hold a Public Hearing at its Regular Meeting on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 7:30 PM in the City Council Chambers, 262 Harlow Street, Bangor, Maine for the purpose of hearing public comment on the proposed City Charter Amendment as follows: Statement of Fact: Deletions of the existing Charter provisions are struck through. Additions are underlined. Art. VI. Sec. 3. Nominations for Elective Officers to be Made by Petition. The nomination of all candidates for elective office provided by this Charter shall be by petition. The petition of a candidate for Councilor or for member of the School Committee shall be signed by not less than 100 nor more than 150 qualified voters of the City. The number of said petitions for candidates for any office that may be signed by any voter shall not exceed the number of candidates to be elected to said office, and in In no case may a voter sign more than one petition for any one candidate. Summary: Currently, Article VI, Sec. 3 of the Bangor City Charter states that the number of petitions a voter can sign for any candidate for a municipal office cannot exceed the number of candidates that can be elected for that office.
