NOTICE OF INTENT TO FILE
Please take notice that Bucksport Mill, LLC, located at 2 River Road, Bucksport, ME 04416, (207) 469-1259, is intending to file a Solid Waste Facility Closure Application with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection pursuant to the provisions of Maine Solid Waste Management Rules, Chapters 400 and 401, and under the authority of 38 M.R.S.A. §§ 1301-1319, on or about November 1, 2024.
The application is for the closure of the Bucksport Mill LLC Landfill, located at the former Verso paper mill site on River Road/Route 15 in Bucksport, Maine. The proposed closure will include capping the landfill, managing stormwater runoff, establishing final grading, and implementing environmental monitoring in accordance with Maine DEP requirements for landfill closures. Long-term post-closure care, including groundwater and gas monitoring, will also be conducted to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
A request for a public hearing from the Board of Environmental Protection or a request that the Board assume jurisdiction over this application must be received by the Department in writing no later than 20 days after the application is found by the Department to be complete and is accepted for processing. A public hearing may or may not be held at the discretion of the Commissioner or Board of Environmental Protection. Public comment on the application will be accepted throughout the processing of the application.
The Solid Waste Facility Closure Application will be available for public inspection at the Maine Department of Environmental Protection's office in Bangor during normal working hours. A copy of the application may also be viewed at the Bucksport Municipal Offices.
