NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
Weyerhaeuser Company will be conducting the site preparation phase of its 2016 Aerial Forestry Herbicide Project in Maine beginning on, or about, July 11, 2016 and continuing until about August 1, 2016, circumstances permitting. The purpose of the project is to prepare sites for tree planting.
The herbicides Accord XRT, Arsenal AC, and Oust XP will be used. These herbicides act specifically on plants and have been approved for use by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Maine Board of Pesticides Control.
The 2016 site preparation program will involve application of herbicides to 72 carefully selected sites on about 2,300 acres of company land in Piscataquis and Somerset counties. Applications will take place in the following unorganized townships and plantations: Big W, Bowtown (T1 R4 BKP WKR), Brassua (T2 R2 NBKP), Carrying Place (T2 R3 BKP WKR), Chase Stream (T1 R6 BKP WKR), Concord, Lexington (T2 R1 BKP WKR), Long Pond (T3 R1 NBKP), Mayfield (T2 R2 BKP EKR), Pierce Pond (T2 R4 BKP WKR), Pleasant Ridge Plantation, Smithtown (T1 R13 WELS), Spencer Bay (T1 R14 WELS) and West Middlesex (T1 R3 NBKP). Applications will also take place in the following organized town: Greenville.
Weyerhaeuser Company has established human health and environmental safety procedures to ensure the proper use of herbicides and to minimize public exposure. All applications will be completed in accordance with an EPA registered product label and in compliance with all regulations of the Maine Board of Pesticides Control. Weyerhaeuser Company uses herbicides only when necessary and appropriate and in accordance with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®) Standard.
